LO2 Casting photographs and justifications

Casting photographs and justifications (auditions and choices)

Casting auditions for Aisha ( main character)

Name: Sarah Jeena
Sarah is a struggling actress who has auditioned for the role of our main character Aisha. we sat down as a group and saw her acting. the reason we did not choose her for the role of Aisha is because she is not confident enough. We went through our story board with her and she did not seem very comfortable with some of the scenes.

Name: Sonbul
Sonbul was one of the actresses who auditioned for the role of Aisha (Our main character). We as a group saw her acting and decided she was not the right person to do Aisha as her acting was not good enough.
Name: Amirah
 Amirah is another Actress who has also auditioned for the role of Aisha. During the audition we made her act out one of the scenes from our script. Amirah's acting was not what we were expecting so unfortunately we couldn't take her on for the role of Aisha.
Name: Warda
We decided to keep Warda for the role of Aisha As she is optimistic, confident, full of energy and perfect for the role of Aisha. During the audition we made her act out a scene from our script and her acting was perfect.

LO2 Synopsis

Overview
Our single camera drama is called “stepping into the light”. Our target audience is teenagers’ especially teenage girls as we feel they will be able to relate to the drama, and this will be the main factor that will attract our audience. This drama may also attract parents as it will broaden their understanding of how their decisions can affect their children’s lives.
There are 3 main subjects to our single camera production.
1.     Decision making- in our story both the main character and the sub character are put in to situations where they have to make decisions that have a major affect on not only their lives but on the lives of the people they love.
2.     Forced marriage- in our drama our main character is being forced in to marriage at a very young age without her consent
3.     Life is short- the sudden death of our main character at the end leave the message to our audience saying ‘life is short so treasure every moment’. Tomorrow may never come
Our Drama uses todrov’s theory to set the format of the story therefore it has:
1.    Equilibrium
Our story starts with a girl called Aisha who is a who is an only child from a strict but loving family. She is a normal teenage girl however she has a secret she hides from her parents. She is suffering from cyber bullying however is too scared to share her problem with her parents.
2.    Disruption of Equilibrium
One unfortunate day her parents receive a call which leaves them a little upset. They then receive a letter through the post containing pictures of Aisha. Aisha’s father is furious when he sees the pictures. He decided the only right thing to do in such a situation is to get Aisha married, so she can start a fresh new life elsewhere.
3.    Recognition Of The Disruption
It comes to Aisha’s attention that her parents are upset .she finds out that her parents have heard about her being cyber bullied. She feels extremely embarrassed, however she knows what her parents must be planning and she decides that she need to talk to them and persuade them otherwise.
4.    Attempt To Repair The Damage
Aisha sits down with her parents and tries to explain how she wishes to study further and go to university. She tries to explain how she wants to build her career and she is not ready for marriage.  Her father tells her she has no say. He will decide when she is to marry.  This leads to a big argument between her and her parents.
5.    New Equilibrium
Aisha gets upset and runs out of the door. Her parents run out to the door after her. Just as she is about to run across the road she is hit by a car. This leads to Aisha’s death.

The main points that the audience will leave thinking about is how it is not right to force your decisions on to others. Instead we should sit down and discuss the best method to resolving such problems. And the second is how life is short and nothing in life should be taken for granted not even life itself.

LO2 Treatment

-->
Treatment
After great thought we have decided to name our single camera production “stepping into the light”. The reason we have decided to use this title is because we feel this title really suits the main concept of our story which is to break through all your boundaries and to stand your ground for what you really believe in. Our story is about an 18 year old girl, who is facing a lot of difficulties in life. Like all teenagers she is struggling to keep her family life, personal life, social life, and school life in balance. We want to make a realist drama, and we want to make this as realistic as possible as we feel this is a situation most teenager can relate to.

Characters
Our main character is a girl called Aisha, who is a bubbly, full of life character. Generally a nice girl, who wants to live her life to the full, however has a bad attitude towards her parent, who she believes are holding her back from her dreams and desires.
Our second character is Aisha’s mother Sidra, who is a very quiet and shy character. She has never really had a say in her own life or in the life of her daughter. Her husband Hakim has always made the decisions and Sidra has always obeyed. Hakim is very controlling and Sidra has never had the courage to question him.

Our drama is set in an African household. We want to portray a different perspective to what our audience would generally expect to see, as we believe this would be more effective on our audience, and will increase the level of interest our audience show toward our single camera production. We have also decided to put a little twist to our climax to make our drama a bit more dramatic so our audience are left asking to see what happens next. The main message we want to give to our audience is the life is very precious, so treasure every moment you have

Target Audience
We believe our single camera production will interest most age groups; however our target audience is teenagers as we believe teenagers can relate more strongly to our drama than any other age group. We believe the best time slot for our drama would be between 7.30pm and 8.30pm as most teenagers would be more likely to be relaxing at home around this time. We would like this to be broadcasted on BBC as they are not biased.

LO1 Task 5

-->
Analysis of ‘My Murder’ TV Drama serial
My Murder is a Crime drama based on a true story about a teenage boy lured in to his death by the girl he liked. My Murder is a single camera production serial. In My Murder the voice over start before showing the dead body and because of this all attentions on the voice.
When it shows the Cloth on the washing line it starts off silent, leaving the viewer confused about what it’s about. When the cloth blows away with the wind it shows the body just lying on the floor then the voice over starts and says “A young black boys been stabbed” right before they do a close up of his face and show the audience who that is on the floor.
The camera shows a close up of his head, while he’s lying on the floor struggling to move and the voice over saying “He looks about 14 or 15” this makes the audience want to watch more because they want to know what’s happened to him.
Next shot is a long shot over a women’s shoulder through a window and you can still see him struggling on the floor, while the voice over carries on so you know that’s the person who made the phone call and she’s the one talking about him.
The cameras on the floor next to him slowly zooming out of a medium close up of his head while he struggles and the voice over carries on and he starts breathing really loud making the audience feel more sympathy towards him.
In the next scene the camera is panning across a field with him walking while the voice over which is his voice is telling us about him and his life. The camera stops following him once he crosses the road. The next shot starts straight away they have left no gaps between the shots.
The camera is recording from the behind the gate; this makes the audience feel like it’s not a very friendly environment to be in, the gates are like a warning to stay out. The cameras handheld and the camera man is walking behind shakilus to show his journey and also to emphasise more on the horrible area he’s in.
One of Shakilus’s friends starts fighting with his and the cameras still hand held and is moving around during the fight. This gets the audience to feel like their more involved in this scene as it gives it a more realistic feel.

LO1 Task 4

-->
Task 4- Compare and Contrast
Eastenders is a prime example of realist drama. It revolves around a group of people and their everyday lives. Therefore audience feel they can relate to different character and different situations. Each episode of Eastenders has its own new twist which continues on to the next episode. This is the main factor about Eastenders that keeps its audience hooked.  The main location for Eastenders is a place known as Albert Square in London. Most of the scenes are set in different parts of Albert Square such as the Queen Vitoria Pub, club, and the homes of different fictional characters. As Eastenders is a realist drama audience emotionally connect to different characters. Each character is either loved or hated by the audience for the decisions they make or secrets they hide.
Doctor Who is a fantasy based anti-realist drama. It is base around the theory of co-existing parallel universes. Every new episode of Doctor Who is set in a universe which is different to the universe shown in the previous episode and the characters use different fictional gadgets as props to survive in the different universe. The director uses flashbacks at the end of every episode to allow the audience to understand what has happened previously. Another interesting fact about Doctor Who is that the Writer has used both fictional characters such as the Doctor, as well as non fictional characters like Daleks.
To be honest there are many differences between Eastenders and Doctor Who. However the main difference is the fact that Eastenders is a Realist Drama, which discusses realistic issues that the audience can relate. On the other hand Doctor Who is an anti-realist drama, which is created by the writers imagination to entertain the imagination of the audience using ideas like co-existing parallel universes, time travel, aliens, and fishes swimming trough the sky.
